Documentation on working with the IDE
Dear All,
I am still a relative newcomer to LC. However, I have been interested in tailoring and adding to the IDE.
Could someone please guide me to places where I can get more documentation on techniques for experimenting with the IDE.
Thanks & Regards,
James

For yourself or to contribute to the project?

Re: Documentation on working with the IDE
Hi Richard,
I am guessing that at first it would be for myself to learn something. But, of course, if I have something that others deem worthy of merit, I will certainly contribute to the community.
As a supplementary question.....
Since I don't want to 'break' my IDE. Could I get some hints as to what parts of the IDE functionality can be 'imported' into a test app stack. I am thinking of palette components and widgets as a starting point.
Thanks & Regards

Re: Documentation on working with the IDE
If you want to study the stacks that make up the IDE and not risk messing up the actual IDE itself (although that is easy to fix, btw), I'd suggest the clone command, which makes a copy of the (whatever object), which you can then save to a separate folder.
For instance, lets say I wanted to study the tools palette and modify things without worrying overly much about the actual tools palette.
In the above, the tool stack on the left (2) is the original, open the message box and type in the command, move the mouse over the stack & hit enter/return (over the right shift key), and presto bango you have the stack in a safe to mess with way. You can study it as is, or save it to study later.
The IDE will append "Copy of x" where x is the name of the object your cloning, which avoids that terribly scary message "stack x is already open!"

Thank you bogs,
Unfortunately, when I look at your reply, I see the message: 'You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.'
I do not understand this restriction, as I am not attempting to attach a file, simply read your example. Could someone please advise me on how to see bogs' instructional image.
Many thanks,
James

Re: Documentation on working with the IDE
Hi James,
due to lots of spammers here in the forum you need to have at least
seven postings before can post/view attachments, links etc.
Sorry for this inconvenience, leave some funny/nonsense comments
and you are quickly up to the necessary amount of postings!
Best and a happy and healthy new year
Klaus

Well, you could post until you reach the limit, or bogs could just put a link to the image haha.
