Proposal for changing a bit the Inspector
After the Toolbar viewtopic.php?f=67&t=28147 and the Tools Palette http://forums.livecode.com/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=28162 I tried to imagine how could be a redesigned Inspector window. Also this, like the previous ones, it's just a try. Please let me know what do you think...
This is the current inspector window (I post it here, so is easily to see the possible changes I propose):
Here is my proposal:

Hi Mag.
You have very neat ideas with all three of your proposals.
Here you forgot the "Contents" section (what makes the text part possibly wider and longer).

Re: Proposal for changing a bit the Inspector
It will be much harder to change the inspector because each pane is built dynamically from scripts. That is because widgets have the ability to specify their own inspector panes, and every widget pane will be unique.
I miss the old inspector and your rewrite is lovely, but I'm not sure how easily it could be implemented.

Re: Proposal for changing a bit the Inspector
An earlier iteration of the new property inspector had a 'subsection' concept, I think it would be possible to do it. Essentially it would just have to create a separate container group for each of the sections. The code is quite fiddly though (especially wrt resizing).

Hi [-hh], thank you so much for the comment. You are right, I have just included the options for a standard button as an example.

Re: Proposal for changing a bit the Inspector
actullaly I like the current poroperties inspector very much.
I would not like to go back.
Maybe it is just a matter of getting used to. The current Properties Inspector does what I want, faster (less clicks) then the previous one.
I like your other proposals very much.
Thank you
Kind regards
Bernd

Re: Proposal for changing a bit the Inspector
That's true for some things (I don't miss the popdown menu at all) but it's missing some features the old one had that I use a lot. One is the ability to resize an object by changing only one edge. Another is how it automatically switched to the alignment pane when multiple objects were selected. Also, the reordering of the icons at the top can be disorienting. The current Properties Inspector does what I want, faster (less clicks) then the previous one.
Having just finished two days of layout work, I doubled the number of clicks just getting back to the alignment pane after every object selection.
