It is an honour to announce the 40th edition of the LiveCode.tv event.

Before making the announcement, I want to urge you all to contact me OFF-LIST with your proposal for a presentation. To make the first event of November possible, we'll need one more presenter. If you never did a presentation before, make sure to contact me or Björnke! Now is your chance to shine!

This weekend's event is scheduled for 22 October 2011 at 19:00h GMT (Sat. 22:00 in Moscow, Sat. 20:00 in Paris, Sat. 14:00 in New York, Sat. 11:00 in Los Angeles, Sun. 04:00 in Sydney, Sun. 03:00 in Tokyo, Sun. 2:00 in Beijing; check the correct time in your own time zone, DST is finishing soon).

This event, Björnke von Gierke will explain html parsing and extraction techniques, including a neat way to use item and line delimiters. Make sure to contact him or me about making a presentation, because he only had to step in due to a lack of volunteers.

Mark (me) will give a quick demo of a collection of iPhone controls he made. If time permits, he will make a simple iPhone app. He will improvise, because there's no time to prepare.

Judy said on ChatRev: a fun time will be had by all (I got permission to quote her, I think).

The European HyperCard User Group (eHUG, http://www.ehug.info) will raffle off the e-book "Take Control of iCloud" courtesy of TidBITS. You can find more info on the TC series at http://www.takecontrolbooks.com.

Make sure to use ChatRev during the happening, otherwise you won't know where to watch the streams, which will be announced in ChatRev. Download ChatRev here:

or enter in the message box:
go stack url "http://qery.us/yt"

If you would like to participate in the event, please head over to http://blog.livecode.tv and click on Participate at the top of the page for ideas and leave a comment and/or contact Mark or Björnke. An easy way to contact us is through this web form http://qery.us/du

This will be 21:00 in Spain, I will try to be there, but....

I'm trying to connect from my Linux machine, but once connected, the Stack, and LiveCode freeze.

Some idea about bugs under Linux?

Hi glpunzi,

This might have to do with your graphics card. Do you have any other problems with sockets communications on Linux? Which stack are you using, where did you download it from?

It might help to build a standalone and connect from the standalone instead of the IDE.

Kind regards,

Mark

The stack is the stack published in bjoernke's site.

It suppose all working ok. I don't know how to try other thing with sockets under LiveCode I'm newbie :)
All in the system are suppose to be working ok.
I can't generate a build, I'm under Trial.

Dear LiveCoders,

Last Saturday, 22 October, we had our 40th on-line gathering of LiveCode fans. This time the usual hosts Björnke and Mark shared their ideas with you.

Björnke von Gierke explained html parsing and extraction techniques, including a neat way to use item and line delimiters.

You can find the first of Björnke's video here:
http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/18038651
There are 11 more short videos, which you can find on the same website.
Björnke has made available the stacks he used during the presentation, which you can find at http://qery.us/172

Mark improvised a quick demo of his collection of iPhone controls and showed how to make a very simple app within the hour.

Mark's presentation is now available on his blog at http://qery.us/171
You can find the collection of controls here http://qery.us/13b

The European HyperCard User Group (eHUG, http://www.ehug.info) raffled off an e-book courtesy of TidBITS. The e-book was won by Bernd. You can find more info on the TC series at http://www.takecontrolbooks.com.

If you would like to tell about your work with LiveCode, now or later, please head over to http://qery.us/u0 for ideas and contact Mark or Björnke. At http://qery.us/du you can find a web form that makes it really easy to contact us.

I hope to see you all at the event next time. We will be making announcements on this mailing list, on the LiveCode forum and at http://livecode.tv where you can (soon) find a copy of this text.

Kind regards,

Mark

The aftermarket cannot be the primary driver of a market. Third-party efforts can boost a platform, even significantly, but not by themselves.

I have so many content and tool initiatives in various stages on my hard drives, waiting for the ROI justification to make the opportunity cost affordable to me...

Rather like my father's project for plastic horse-shoes: waiting for the magic moment he missed it. :?

I think Richmond may be implying the moment has passed.
Possibly he is right, but nevertheless...

That is indeed what I meant.

Moving house i found one of my 3.5'' floppy stashes - a single multi-disk archive spanning 400+ floppies, from the era of system 7. Don't have a working machine capable of reading these now but can't quite throw them away... i do have a classic, LCII and an old Performa 630 from the pre PPC days but only recently found the SCSI and serial cables needed form them, haven't tested if still boot... I do have a working a pizmo G3 laptop but it's wifi is so old it won't connect to my home wifi... at some point i'll get round to sorting these things out..
