I REALLY want to try LiveCode ( I was a Hypercard programmer several decades ago ), and the first problem raised it's head. Being a 32 bit machine I had to download a ".x86" (successfully downloaded)' the problem is how to RUN it.
When "open" a dialog pops up stating ".x86 "has no known programs associated with it ... pick a program to open with"
I have dual boot options:
Windows Vista
Linux Mint nineteen point 3 Tricia base: Ubuntu .04 bionic
I prefer and use mostly Linux Mint:
My machine is OLD
HP-G60-Notecbook-PC:
CPU: Dual Core Pentium T4200 (-MCP-)

Re: Installing LiveCode in Linux Mint -- Cinnamon
I think you probably need to set the downloaded file as executable. In Mint I think you can use the GUI to right-click and set the properties to allow executable permission. After that, double clicking should give you a prompt that asks whether it should be run, or other choice.
Re: Installing LiveCode in Linux Mint -- Cinnamon
If your still confused, I had posted a video here that goes through an installation on 'buntu. The steps should be the same for any (debian based) distro.

Yep, I found that too. After some head-scratching trying to get the 32-bit version to run, before I realised I'd downloaded the wrong one. (Yeah, what a doofus! )

Re: Installing LiveCode in Linux Mint -- Cinnamon
I also found that it was installed into a hidden (dot) directory in my home, which was quite a PITA. LiveCode doesn't show up in the All Applications list nor in a search. I had to Show Hidden Files, go into ~/.runrev/components/livecodebusiness-9.6.1.x86_64 and then Edit > Make Link for the program itself and move the link to the Desktop. Is this really how things ought to work in this platform?
