LC on ReactOS?
I am running ReactOS [ http://www.reactos.org/ ] in VMWare Player 6.0.1 on Ubuntustudio 13.10.
The 6.5.2 community installer for Windows will not even start installing.
The 6.0.1 version starts installing and then gets stuck.
Both freeze the system.

Now; for no obvious reason at all; 6.5.2 installed, and then got stuck here:
Now I have to reboot and try 6.5.2: possibly the "start Livecode now" checkbox screwed things up.

Re: LC on ReactOS?
So, I rebooted and got a Blue Screen of death.
Luckily; this being VMWare, I chucked the whole thing out and started up from a "virgin" image again.
BUT the thing, having installed, froze the system at theis screen, which I cannot circumvent.

Re: LC on ReactOS?
Just did a virtual Ctrl-Alt-Delete.
The ReactOS system has become glacially slow and unresponsive.
Will try to get the system to reboot, and hope that I don't get a blue screen of death for the 5th time, as the "fun" of continually
reinstalling Firefox 3.6, downloading Livecode 6.5.2 and resetting the screen resolution is wearing a bit thin.

Re: LC on ReactOS?
Cripes.
This experiment has made me very anti-ReactOS.
If one wants to compare how far Livecode has travelled since 1998 with ReactOS (started 1998) there is no comparison.
I have ReactOS running with 2 Gigs of RAM, but Livecode freezes the system . . .
This doesn't cut the mustard at all.
Mind you, come to think of things, the rationale for ReactOS seems a bit dicky. If you don't like
Windows, or you cannot afford Windows; use Linux, rather than some sort of feeble imitation.
Hvaing tried to restart via the Ctrl-Alt_del dialogue and waiting 30 minutes (see picture) I have had quite enough of ReactOS for
the foreseeable future.

Downloaded a newer version of a VBox image of ReactOS:

Re: LC on ReactOS?
This is Livecode Community 6.1.0 running on ReactOS Beta 5
in VirtualBox on Ubuntu Studio 14.04.
The only thing that I can see as vaguely fussing is the way fonts go 'odd' in certain places, as per LC's preferences
stack:
ReactOS B5 on the left, Ubuntu Studio 14.04 on the right.

Re: LC on ReactOS?
Ha, Ha: wishful thinking: everything, after that, freezes.
Why am I doing this?
Well: less exposure to harmful radiation than climbing Mount Everest:
also, easier for slobs like me

Re: LC on ReactOS?
So; it's that time again; when Richmond for no obviously good reason whatsoever gets out ReactOS [ https://www.reactos.org/ ] and tries
LiveCode in it . . .
ReactOS 0.4.0 has been released, which, considering it has been ten years since version 0.3.0 obviously means that
version 1.0 will be released when I am pushing up the daisies.
My underpants are NOT revolving at high speed; but having committed myself 2 years ago . . .
Downloading 8.0 DP 14, 7.1.2 RC 2, 6.7.9 RC 2 all 32 bit versions: at least Firefox works in ReactOS 4 [running this inside VMware on my Xubuntu box] so
one can download stuff rather than mucking around with various software "shoehorns".
Install attempts: 'you only'
8.0 DP 14: "Install slave quit without eof"
7.1.2 RC 2: "Install slave quit without eof"
6.7.9 RC 2: "Install slave quit without eof"
'all users'
8.0 DP 14: "Install slave quit without eof"
7.1.2 RC 2: "Install slave quit without eof"
6.7.9 RC 2: "Install slave quit without eof"
'custom'
8.0 DP 14: "Install slave quit without eof"
7.1.2 RC 2: "Install slave quit without eof"
6.7.9 RC 2: "Install slave quit without eof"
Busted Flush.
Which is odd considering I got further with earlier versions of LiveCode and ReactOS.

Re: LC on ReactOS?
I wonder about sending a bug report to the ReactOS people about this . . .
. . . but then again I wonder if I can be bothered as I cannot quite understand what the point
of ReactOS is, and if it had a point sometime back in time that point may have been lost in the face
of the way Linux has developed.
Who, if anyone, is going to bother to install ReactOS [think Windows 98] on a machine, and then, having
done that, settle down to develop stuff with LiveCode on it?

This is pretty poisonous, but I have a feeling it may be near the truth:

Re: LC on ReactOS?
The "slave" reference in the error suggests the issue may be related to the elevated process permissions needed to install as admin. Have you tried the "You Only" install option?

Re: LC on ReactOS?
If you look back at my posting you should see that the "You Only" option was the first one I tried.
