Re: "on opencard" handler
Thanks to everyone for the helpful ideas. In the end, I did "rebuild" the card from the most recent backup copy of the livecode which still worked correctly. Not too much downtime connected with it. MWieder -- gosh, I've never used a space after the FLD and it's always worked OK for the field update...

Re: "on opencard" handler
Hi, Sparkout, Thanks for your reply. The script code "inside" the "on opencard" handler does not change the situation. Deleting the entire code, then using: on opencard put "This time it worked" & CR into fld"testlog" end opencard also fails to place the text in that field. It's like there is someth...

"on opencard" handler
Hi, This one has me stumped. A stack's "on opencard" handler works fine in dev environment, but fails to execute in stand alone version. I've deleted the handler, rebuilt it, tried totally different code in a handler by that name -- all work fine while in livecode, but fail after stand alone is buil...

Re: volume serial number
Mark & Klaus,
Thanks for the comments.
I already use the "shell" command to obtain the serial number but wondered if there was a "direct access" call to the system information via LiveCode.

volume serial number
Hi, Folks,
Other than using a shell command, is there a way to "get" the volume serial number from some system information source?
" the Volumes" returns the list of available volumes, but does not include volume serial numbers.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Re: Kill Process in Windows OS
Klaus & Ken From a "mouseUP" handler, the following single line of code works in WIndows XP to "kill" another running application: put shell("taskkill /im myApp.exe") into myresult The shell command needed the " /im " switch to finally work correctly. The application name may include uppercase chara...

Kill Process in Windows OS
Hi, All,
What is the correct code to kill another Windows application with a LiveCode handler?
Should this work?
on MouseUp
kill process "anotherApp.exe"
end MouseUP
Thanks,

calculating standard deviation
The LiveCode "standardDeviation" returns a value based on "sample" methodology for the numbers list, rather than "entire population" method. For example, Excel allows for both "STDEV" and "STDEVP" calculations, and they produce significantly different results on relatively small lists of numbers. Is...

When placed at the end of the handler, this code will also accomplish the desired result:
select the last line of fld"my Data"

Re: using the "answer" feature -- general question
Robert,
Thanks for the information about "answer".
There are several "log comments" intended to provide tracking. The problem only seems to arise when the compiled standalone version is running -- not in development mode where debug could help.
